Gawai Dayak is a festival celebrate only in Sarawak on 1 and 2 June every year and it a public holiday for Sarawakians. It celebrates the end of the rice harvest and is traditionally a time for the community to come together after the hard work is over.
Tuak (rice wine) are brewed and traditional delicacies like penganan and glutinous rice is roasted in bamboo (cakes from rice flour, sugar and coconut milk) prepared (ngelulun pulut).
During the celebration Ngajat dance is preform and it is believed to celebrate the return of the worriors save return from battels and as the year gone by now the dance is also preformed to welcome important guests (VIPs) to the longhouses and so on.
Here I would like to wish all my Iban friends “Selamat Ari Gawai" Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai.”
It means “Happy Gawai" may everyone be healthy and live a long life.”
Cheers everyone, I can wake up late tomolo.... ah.. finally some rest.
