Egg Standing On Dumplings Festival

Yesterday was Dumplings Festival and I hear from my neighbor saying that they were able to make their egg stand on the ground and so I quickly grab my camera and capture it.

Bak Chang Or Rice Dumpling

With Duan Wu Festival is around the corner, I'm sure everyone will be making rice meat dumplings or just buy from the local market.
Rice dumpling festival 端午节 falls on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year fall on 16 June 2010.


Do you know there is a interesting story behind the dumplings. It commemorates the death of Qu Yuan 屈原, a poet from the kingdom of Chu who lived during the Warring States period. Qu Yuan tried unsuccessfully to warn his emperor against the threat of their Qin neighbors. When the Qin Dynasty overtook Yingdu, the Chu capital, in 278 BC, the patriotic Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River. According to legend, bak chang (in Hokkien) or rice dumplings 粽子 were thrown by his countrymen into the river to prevent fish from eating the poet's body.

Lilli Lake Garden At YangZhou

Lilli Lake Garden is another garden we visit before we leaving YangZhou, the place is not as big as The Slender West Lake. According to Mr Yiek our local tour guild the place is visited by Emperor Kang Xi three times when he visit Jiangnan.

Shanghai World Expo 2010

My sister and her husband just came back from Shanghai Expo last month and here is few photos of the Shanghai Expo I manage to swap from her camera.

the ticket is RMB 160 for 1 day entry


It was closely packed, uncountable and never ending Chinese people rushing into the gate you can smell their body odour...oowww man.... the place pack like sardines....

Sadly my sister and her husband didn't visit inside the Pavilions as waiting in line is almost 3 hour... *faint* at each pavilions. I'll be going to Shanghai again this coming October to watch the closing ceremony of the Expo. So stay tune for my second visit to Shanghai again a visit to Shanghai World Expo 2010 soon.

Shanghai Nanjing Road

Before we going to cruise around at Huangpu River to see Shanghai night view which I'll blog about it earlier, we stop by Nanjing Road.


Nanjing Road is the main shopping street and and is one of the world's busiest shopping streets in Shanghai. The history of Nanjing Road can be traced back to the year 1851, at that time the place is called "Park Lane".

Not much photos here due to the temperature at that time around 5 degree Celsius, and we stop by the shopping centre to buy extra jacket before we our HuangPu River Cruise as it was extremely cold that night.
